2010 Homeschoolers Outdoor Education

The Homeschoolers Outdoor Education Series is for students ages 7 to 12. There is no fee to attend. Parents and younger siblings are asked to enjoy the library facility or hike the south trails while their participating children are attending the naturalist-led program. We cannot accommodate requests through e-mail.

Snow Day
Tuesday, February 9
Wolf Creek Environmental Center
10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Examine the beauty and diversity of snow. Share a snow-packed day of getting a close-up look at snow, making crafts, and enjoying a few “wet” snacks. Please dress to go outside. Ages 7 to 12. Register by February 5. Free.

A Scurry of Squirrels
Tuesday, March 9

10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Did you know that there are over three hundred species of squirrel in the world? Come learn about our common species, make a squirrel feeder (one per family), and play some squirrel games. Dress for the weather. Ages 7 to 12. Register by March 5. Free.

Trash to Treasures

10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m.
We as Americans throw away a lot of stuff. Help us celebrate Earth Day by turning some of your trash into treasures and playing some earth friendly games. Bring along some packaging or other clean trash that you would have thrown away and see how you can turn it into art. Dress for the weather. Ages 7 to 12. Register by April 9. Free.

Fungus and Fern

The summer flowers have finished blooming. The fall leaves have not yet turned. Now is the perfect time to look for color in the fungus on the forest floor. Join us for a hike to explore the world of fungi and ferns. Dress for the weather. Ages 7 to 12. Register by September 10. Free.

Goin' on a Leaf Hunt

Allardale
10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Leaves come in all shapes and sizes and, at this time of year, colors too. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about leaves while going on a leaf hunt. Be prepared to hike. Dress for the weather. Ages 7 to 12. Register by October 8. Free

Animal Exteriors

Animals have a wide variety of skin, scales, fur, feathers, and even skeletons on the outside of their bodies. Come take a closer look at some interesting animal exteriors and learn what they do for their owners. Ages 7 to 12. Register by November 5. Free.
