Passport to Fishing - River Styx Park - 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Ohio Division of Wildlife, this three-day program introduces children with little or no previous fishing experience to the sport of angling. By participating in the program, participants have fun while learning some basic skills and needed techniques to begin fishing in their communities. The Passport Program includes strong stewardship messages as part of each learning activity. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children, but it is not required. Each day of the program will focus on a particular lesson, so children should attend all three days to get the most out of the program. Dates cannot be registered for individually. Fishing poles and bait will be provided. Ages 7 to 12. Register by July 2. Free. |

Dinner on the Diner - Lester Rail Trail - 5 p.m., 6 p.m., or 7 p.m. You won’t want to miss this unique dining experience co-sponsored by the Friends of the Parks and the NEOLS groups! Enjoy a gourmet meal while touring the Lester Rail Trail’s NEOLS railroad. Casual dress is suggested slacks are strongly recommended for the ladies. A maximum of three dinner trains with 20 diners each will be in operation during the evening. In case of inclement weather, dinner will be served under roof. Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early; trains will depart on time. There is a $25 program fee per person. Ages 5 and up. Register by July 15. |

Join Cleveland Metroparks Institute of the Great Outdoors to learn the basics for having fun and paddling safely on in-land lakes and rivers. This on-the-water class includes all necessary kayaking equipment and will cover kayaking basics, boating safety, proper boat control, and wet exits, so come prepared to get wet. Ages 16 and up. Visual Journaling Workshop - Wolf Creek Environmental Center - 1 to 4 p.m. Bring a favorite written piece about nature: a poem, quote, essay, excerpt from a book, etc., and a blank sketchbook and pencil. We will share the written pieces, brainstorm on how to write some of our own, and draw from direct observation of nature. Our visual journal will incorporate both words and sketches using both sides of the brain to enhance observation skills and appreciation of the natural world. Sketchbooks and pencils will be available for sale for those who don’t bring their own. No prior writing or drawing skills or experience is necessary! Bring a hat, camp stool, or small blanket to sit on as we will be working outside, weather permitting. Ages 16 and up. There is a $10 program fee per person. Register by August 13. |
