A new building is currently under construction at Hidden Hollow Camp which will replace the existing old barn for group activities use. The building, carefully located on the site to balance programming needs with protection of the existing natural resources, will have 4,603 square feet of enclosed space and a generous wrap around porch to accommodate use by groups such as scouts, churches, schools and other organizations, allowing indoor ‘camp-outs' and activities throughout all seasons of the year. In addition, the new building will facilitate special nature-oriented programming by the park district. The amenities provided by the new building will be rustic, with items such as a wood burning stove for heat, a simple and minimal food preparation area off to one corner, and outdoor vault toilets located conveniently nearby. Completion of the building is anticipated to be mid to late spring, with construction of the new entrance drive, parking lot, and other improvements to the camp to follow. Seeding of the site and time allowance for establishment of turf cover should allow use of the facility by fall of this year.
