Named after the local community, River Styx Park is over 83 acres in size and was opened in May 1996. As erosion by a glacier and water shaped the meandering River Styx Valley, the upland ravines or River Styx Park became a quiet haven for flora and fauna.
A .75-mile nature trail guides you through the mature forests of River Styx Park and provides great opportunities for bird watching. The month of May is the prime time to see the greatest variety of birds.
A .5-mile paved loop trail circles the three-acre pond found at this site and passes through a wooded area. The pond is fed by a unique aeration tower. The park district periodically stocks this pond for family fishing enjoyment with large mouth bass, blue gill, some channel catfish, and, in the spring and fall, rainbow trout. A daylily garden, donated by the River Styx Garden Club, provides a splash of color along the trail during the summer months.
Visitors can enjoy a family picnic at the park or reserve a picnic shelter for group activities. Paved paths make the restrooms and shelter at this park fully accessible.
