One of the most scenic parks in Medina County is Allardale, located in Granger Township. Named after Stan and Esther Allard who donated their family farm to the park district in 1992, this rolling site offers a wide variety of habitats and scenic areas.
A tribute to the Allard's commitment to land stewardship, this site boasts one of the finest reforestation areas in the State of Ohio. Beginning in the 1930s, Stan Allard planted trees on areas too steep to farm. Over his lifetime, more than 100,000 trees were planted at Allardale. The nature trails provide visitors an opportunity to view these tree plantings, from the newest stands of tulip poplar and oaks to mature woods. A large stand of native beech trees is also found here.
A picnic shelter nestled in the trees of Allardale provides a cool spot to hold your family reunion on the hottest of summer days. A paved path leads from the parking lot to the shelter making it fully accessible. The paved loop path provides an opportunity for exercise or just plain enjoyment as you circle the wooded ravine and pass the meadows of Allardale.
The park district purchased 212 additional acres in 1997 to add to the Allard's gift of 125 acres. A portion of the former Firestone Estate, this property continues to be used for equestrian activities by the Bath Pony Club. The public may also use the property for general equestrian use.
The Lodge at Allardale is a 4,800-square-foot indoor facility on the east side of Allardale. Designed to look like a farm building, The Lodge at Allardale has a capacity of 98 people and features a fireplace, kitchen, restrooms, and meeting room. Aside from park programs, the building will be available to rent for outside events. This facility was made possible by a generous gift from the Allard Family Fund and Linda Allard Gallen.
The Lodge at Allardale can be reserved up to two years in advance. In addition, one-, two-, and three-day rental packages are available for The Lodge at Allardale.
